The Arabic newspaper Okaz reported that on Thursday (21/12), the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs branch in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region organized a visit for Consuls General accredited in the Makkah province and their families to the Al-Ula Governorate and its archaeological sites.

Accompanied by Director General of the Makkah Foreign Ministry branch, Mazen Al-Hamli, the consuls and their families toured the mud-brick dwellings, ancient monuments, Maraya theater and learned about various tourist destinations abundant in Al-Ula.

Al-Ula is a region in north-west Saudi Arabia, known for its natural and historic heritage. The expansive area contains many archaeological treasures like the relics of the ancient Dadan and Lihyan Kingdoms that once ruled the Arabian-peninsula over 2000 years ago.

As part of Saudi Vision 2030 to boost tourism, Al-Ula is being developed into an international hub for archaeology, eco-tourism and cultural events. The visit for foreign consuls helped promote the landmarks of Al-Ula. Strengthening international ties can support growth of this emerging tourist destination.
